Calm Like a Bomb

        Tom’s sweat beading down his oily pores and dripped into the mess of wires below. This bomb had no timer and showed evidence of control via remote detonation. He had no usual gear or standard issue Kevlar body suit. He was only equipped with a small switchblade he kept stashed in the right pocket of his tattered jeans. This particular device was intricate and full of dummy strands stringy with deception. One wrong snip and Tom’s parts would be scattered with indiscernible shards of the bus. The knife sliced through the plastic coating reminding him of a severed artery. Boom…yellow, white, black…

        He opened his eyes to find himself standing in front of the undamaged bus. He sighed, looked at the time and muttered, “Okay, I’ll try this again.”
